Ah...you think? [Seth pulls out hers, looking a bit surprised; cell phones actually don't exist where she's from, but then again, when psychics and holograms are a thing...well. There's kind of no need for them. She laughs a bit sheepishly.] Sorry, these are pretty new to me.
[But, she follows suit, frowning sharply when she sees the date: June 10.
Strange. Very strange. It was August the last time she checked; never mind that she's from years into the future relative to this time period (definitely pre-Armageddon) as is.
Slowly, she looks over at Iwaizumi, appearing both perplexed and suspicious.]
...June 10, same as yours. Which...can't be right.
[He glances at her when she says that, surprised they're new. This model is older for him, but it's not terrible. It has all the functions they really need.]
You remember something different too?
[He doesn't mention that the date is significant for him--it'd be too much of a coincidence if it was for her too, right?]
[Despite it being new to her, though, the overall layout of the cell phone matches up well enough with the rotary phones back home that she can figure it out pretty quickly. She nods, looking a bit shaken now.
If they can be pulled through time itself...well. Who knows what else this school has in store for them?]
I…do. It was August, if I recall. [Seth exhales, gripping her phone slightly, murmuring:] His favorite flowers were in bloom...
[Soon enough, however, she looks back up at Iwaizumi, tilting her head and humming in thought.]
I would think they would show the same date, though. Otherwise---how can we all be in here at the same time? Unless...the date has some other significance? Although it just seems like a typical first day of school...
["His"? A boyfriend? It's the first conclusion to jump to when it's about something like flowers, plus the fact that it's a murmur. She's pretty enough, so it makes sense.]
So this is like going back in time two months for you, if it's real. [But she's right...] Everything else does look like the first day of school.
[Boyfriend? If only it were that simple---Suleyman was...someone she deeply trusted, at any rate. For all of her cheeriness and spontaneity, a boyfriend's actually not something she wants----for many reasons.
Seth looks off to the side somewhat, laughing a bit weakly. If it's real. Well, this would be the most involved dream she's had in a while...if she could even call it that.]
You say that as if we're all having the same dream---considering the variety of people here? I think that's a little too intricate even for a dream, for our minds to conjure up so many different individuals. [But, she nods.] Yes. [And no, but she'd rather not overwhelm him with divulging the fact that she's from the future. And yet, speaking of timeframes...] You're right, though. Summertime is when everyone's on vacation.
[Then, she laughs again, with a bit more gusto.]
Although, there is such a thing as remedial courses...but surely, that can't be the case in point here, right? That'd just be rather embarrassing...
[Look to him she just seems like an ordinary teenage girl... There's no reason for him to think otherwise. He doesn't think it's a dream either, mind you, but it's hard to explain a situation that makes little sense. He's just thinking of all the dumb sci-fi movies he's been forced to watch in his life.
While she laughs at the possibility of remedial courses, his expression drops, darkening a bit.]
That's a joke, right? [He studied to ensure nothing like that happens??] I don't think I even could do remedial courses at this point, I have entrance exams.
[Oh, he can feel free to assume that she's as normal as normal can get (well, mostly normal)---Seth will happily oblige him. Playfully, she nudges Iwaizumi.]
Well, aren't you prepared? You never know---if we...somehow managed to get enrolled here, that means there's a possibility they've looked into our educational backgrounds, right? [Though, honestly, she severely doubts that the case. Still, he appears to be a perfectly normal guy, so she'll go with an analogy that makes sense to him rather than outright saying "they may have probed into our personal lives to bring us here." She grins reassuringly.] If you're already going over material needed for entrance exams, they might make an exception for you!
[Or rather, he's just lucky he's not a fish-out-of-water like she is, in this situation.]
[He looks down at where her arm nudged his, frowns at it but doesn't say anything.]
I guess I'm a little prepared? But have you heard them speak? [They all should have heard that garbled mess at the start--surely?] It's not like we can understand it. ...Unless you could?
Well...no. [Seth now looks a little more contemplative. It's true, though. The language of the natives here is akin to some kind of gibberish---she's not sure if it might be some kind of cipher language or an entirely new language altogether.] But...I would assume whatever written material we get would be in a language we understand, right? And besides...
[She looks up at Iwaizumi, raising an eyebrow.] ...Don't you think it's odd that we can understand each other?
I don't know... where are you from? [If they're both from Japan, then it's probably not all that weird. Probably. Either way--] I wouldn't assume written language would work differently though either. We'll have to see what they do.
They considered my land a part of the Middle East, long ago. In recent times, however, most call my home country Byzantium. [Seth doesn't look in the slightest bit Asian---if anything, she looks vaguely European, but anything's possible! So....yeah, it's a little weird knowing a language from a country that's all but gone, where she's from. Much of Asia was destroyed during Armageddon.] But, even though I've never heard this language in my life otherwise, it still makes things easier, right? Otherwise, this situation would be a lot more difficult.
[In the meantime, she shrugs.]
But, you're right---we'll just have to play it by eye and ear. [She smiles. He's a sensible sort. She likes that.] I'm Seth Nightroad, by the way---it's nice meeting you. And you are?
They say first impressions usually last the longest...
[Seth snickers, heading over to the desk nearest to the vent with a random book she'd grabbed from a nearby shelf, and deliberately tilting herself toward it, creating the impression that she "tripped."]
---Uh-oh...!
[In "falling forward," however, Seth tosses the book up against the vent, to create the illusion that it's "flying" out of her hand in her fall. The vent falls open, with a fairly loud creak. Seth winks at Mitsuba as she's slouched over the desk, and looks to the rest of the class.
Nope, they've gone unnoticed. Seth immediately frowns, then looks to Mitsuba again.]
[ Mitsuba watches the girl's actions with amusement. Though she can't help but be a little disappointed when there isn't any reaction from the rest of that classroom. ]
Where do you think it leads? I don't want to just end up in another classroom. [ that.... would be really embarrassing, really. Mitsu goes up close to the vent before kneeling down next to it. She didn't really see an exit. ]
[......Now Seth's wondering if these...faceless students and faculty are, on top of looking horribly indistinct, brainwashed somehow. Briefly, she narrows her eyes suspiciously, before returning her attention to Mitsuba.]
I would think to the halls, maybe even another part of the school entirely? [Seth strains her eyes to try and see the direction in which the vent leads---sadly, it's too dark to make anything out. Her expression turns rather determined.]
We'll have to find out, either way, since we've gone through the trouble. [She laughs, then, her smile returning.] But at least we might make a dramatic entrance somewhere? Like spies!
[She nods at the other girl.]
Mind giving me a boost? Unless you'd like to get in first.
You know what they say about leaving good first impressions!
[Seth says this with a laugh. Except this is the exact opposite of a "good first impression," but....you know. Details.
Still, Mitsu will find that Seth's pretty light once she gently steps onto her hands. Once she's got a good grip on the inner ledge of the vent, she'll hoist herself up, wriggling her way inside. Seth squints her eyes through the shadows of the vent, which seems innocuous enough.]
Hm, it seems normal! [And with that, she'll peep her head back out, craning the upper half of her body outward, arms outstretched, to help Mitsu up.]
[And Seth snaps the picture, blinking in mild awe. It's true, though---this guy would put the equally tough-looking Baybars to shame, and Baybars was one of the most intimidating people she knew. Smiling, she saves the picture and shows it to Jade, so he can see for himself.]
Pretty impressive, if I say so myself! Something tells me no one would dare pick on a guy like you! [Seth laughs cheerfully---sure, her perkiness might be unusual to him and anyone else, but for her? It's a coping mechanism, and, believe it or not, she really needs her coping mechanisms right now.] In fact, I'm sure you could pick a bully right off their feet and stuff them inside one of these lockers. Sorry if I might've startled you---you seemed a little caught off-guard earlier... [She scratches her chin sheepishly.] ...I guess I got a little too excited about the camera.
Hm, perhaps. Although an evil genius tends to always have a plan. Someone with the devil's luck just so happens to stumble upon a good thing or conveniently manages to dodge a bullet. But...combine both, and you get a tyrant.
[...But could she be considered as such? She is a sole sovereign back home, and humans in the Empire are considered to be lower on the social ladder in comparison to the vampires. Still, the humans are far from being slaves, and coexistence is a reality.
Yet, is there such a thing as a "good" tyrant? She's...never given that much thought, and, unbeknownst to the boy in front of her, he has made her think.
She's not sure what to make of that, but it is, at the very least, interesting. He is interesting---because, really, who asks questions like that upon first meeting someone? He's either audacious, or clever.
Or both. Seth meets his gaze straight on, a playful, enigmatic little twinkle playing in her eyes.]
Well, then. In your survey, I might be part of the minority. My favorite subject is history---no one likes reminiscing upon the past nowadays, but personally? Life was a lot more interesting, long ago.
There's nothing wrong with being a tyrant. They often prove to be the greatest leaders of their age and although their methods are considered wrong, they inspire their people to grow at a rapid rate.
[The feeling of being oppressed is so terrible, that if you make it out alive you become the strongest person in existence. Because even when death is not a threat, you still feel as if you have over come it. And unlike a war where your brother's in arms are at your side, regaining control over your life, and pride, is a battle furiously fought on your own.]
[However to win, you need tools, and a strong will.]
[To him, it's the losers who never give up that are the true gifts of this world. Because when things fall apart and everything is lost, they'll simply just get back up and continue walking. While when the winners fall...]
Not particularly. But then again, my favorite subject is math. [He scratches the back of his neck.] I guess I could say it's because mathematics holds the answers to the universe, but to be honest it's just the most complex field.
